My passion is, has always been, and will probably always be traveling and experiencing different cultures. I do not remember when or how I fell in love with this interest of mine, but life has taught me to embrace the unknown. If I were to describe it with a word, I guess it would be serendipity perhaps, or fate, or destiny, or even coincidence.

When I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut. The first time I went to a planetarium, I thought to myself, “Wow! Look at all the stars! I will go into space one day, definitely.” Boy, how far away am I from doing that. I had no idea that I would become a language teacher instead and I cannot believe how much I enjoy teaching. Not only has teaching taken me to amazing places, but it has also shown me the importance of a good education. There is a Chinese proverb believed to be written by Xunzi that reads, “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.” I try my best to stay true to that belief even though I know that learning does not always happen the way we expect it to.

For the past ten years, I worked at Buxton School as a teacher, a coach, an advisor, and a dorm parent, and it was an amazing ten years of my life. In my time there, what I found most meaningful and rewarding was being able to build and develop close relationships with young people by creating a supportive and inclusive community alongside them. I realized how much it means and how important it is for students to have people in their lives, especially adults, who they can trust, rely on, and who care about them and their growth holistically, not just in the classroom but their social-emotional development as well. That means celebrating them at their best, being there for them, and listening to them at their worst.

I am currently working as a Resident Faculty at San Domenico School in San Anselmo. I’m also working part-time as a Swim Instructor/Lifeguard at the Y. I feel blessed that I have found a career that I truly love. Maybe it’s just for now, or maybe it’s for good. I don’t know. What I do know is that I continue to learn about myself, about my students, and about the world. Every. Single. Day.

This blog is just a place for thoughts, nothing more. (8/26/2024)
